Tinhorn Press/Gallery is now Tinhorn Public Works. The change came about with the happy break of the partners Chastain and Gruenwald. They first formed Tinhorn Press in the cellar of Momi Toby's Revolution Cafe/Art Bar in Hayes Valley, San Francisco, after some loose conversation and whiskey. The year was 1993. Here, below the cafe, the artists produced work using various fine art printmaking techniques such as intaglio, stone lithography, relieft, woodblock and monotypes.
John Gruenwald has gone on to open Gruenwald Press in the Mission. He is represented by Tinhorn Public Works. Terry Chastain decided to expand the gallery and focus on emerging and mid-career artists. They still get together now and then, to gossip art and drink a little whiskey.
Tinhorn Public Works now represents not only printmakers but artists who work in other mediums such as drawing, mixed media, painting and to include installation work. Revolving exhibitions are held every six weeks.
